My Kind of Prom

So Prom at our school is $30 a ticket (SO not worth it, if you ask me). Not only that, but it just so happens to be on the same day that theatre will be up in Columbia for state. For those who want to go to prom, they have to leave with parents before the awards (again, if you ask me, SO not worth it). Now, basically all of my close friends are in theatre, so we decided that we should just do our own prom the weekend before! And lucky us, there are 5 boys and 5 girls in our group of friends! How convenient. :) (We are all just friends though, which that is also convenient) So anyway, this last Saturday my friends and I got together, dressed up, and had our own, FREE prom! The guys all went to the Halle's house to get ready and the girls went to our friend Christine's house (she was Joseph's date). Since the guys didn't really have much to do, they also took our 15 passenger van and turned it into a limo! And instead of buying corsages, we all made tissue paper flower ones for each other while we were getting ready, so much fun, and way cheaper! They boys came and picked us up at 5 and we took pictures. We didn't get as many group pictures as we wanted though, because we were running late, but we got enough. Once pictures were over, we all piled into the "limo" and drove to our friend Travis's house.
Side Note: Travis was my date, and the way he asked me was SUPER cute! We are both in Readers Theatre together, so he slipped a note into my reader's book that said, "Look on page nine and you will find a rhyme." We had just gotten new scripts that day, so I flipped to page 9 in the new one, but didn't find anything. We are doing Chaucer's Canterbury Tales which is all rhyming, so my thoughts were, "Well ya there's a rhyme here, but not any different from any of the rhymes in the rest of the entire script!" Silly me....I didn't realize until rehearsal that evening that maybe I should check page 9 of the OLD script. Sure enough, at the top of the page was my next hint, written in rhyme! It sent me to the closet which in turn sent me to my friend Christine. She sent me to the pencil holder on our teachers desk, and that told me to look under a black box....of which our set contains 7. So of course, I knew exactly what it was talking about, but I didn't know which one. I go through all 7 boxes, lifting them up and setting them back down, asking people to move for just one second, and overall, looking like a crazy woman, and I found nothing...Then I realize, again, silly me, that maybe the clue is taped inside the box, not just sitting underneath it....So I start back at the beginning, and when I look inside the 7th box, I finally find my next clue, which sent me to the paper towel holder, which sent me to Travis. So I go over to Travis, COMPLETELY unsuspecting, and he hands me a slip of paper that says, "Will you be my prom date?" I was so excited! I hadn't even thought of where the scavenger hunt could be leading me, so it was a total surprise for me. And what made it even better, later that night as I was remembering how fun the scavenger hunt was and how happy it made me, I realized that it was also the first time I had been asked by a guy to be his date! I mean, I've gone on lots of dates, 6 or 7, but I always, I have been the one to ask the boy or my cousins also going on the date have asked them for me. So ya, that was really fun for me. Anyway, back to the real story. :)
Travis's family went all out for us, it was AWESOME!!! When we got to his house, they sent us downstairs for appetizers. When we walked down, it was all decorated with streamers on the ceiling and balloons covering the floor. We were going to wait to dance until after dinner, but the music was playing so we danced anyway. And it was real dancing too, waltzing and swing dancing, because we are that cool. :) So we had a grand old time working up an appetite (and sweat!) until they called us up for dinner. We get up there and they had a place set for each of us with menus to tell us what we'd be eating. Oh man, it was DELICIOUS!!! We started off with a delicious green salad and lemonade, and then moved on to the main course: twice baked potatoes, rolls with honey butter, green beans, and filet mignon. MMMMM!!! It was all soo good, and we were all so stuffed, but wanted to keep eating. We had to stop to make room for desert though, ice cream cake! Holy cow, the meal was SO delicious, we were all so sad that we were already full. :) After dinner, we went back downstairs. Travis's older sister had set up a specific place for pictures (in addition to our earlier ones) to get pictures as couples like you would at real prom. Then we danced some more (again, REAL dancing, although it wasn't always real GOOD dancing, I must admit). :) But anyway, we had lots of fun, and once we were done, we changed out of our formal wear and sat down to watch an old Dorris Day and Rock Hudson movie. Again, just because we are that cool. :) After the movie, everyone got into a massive tickle fight, every man for themselves. Somehow it turned into wrestling and just straight out craziness, which lasted for the rest of the night. It was super fun, and we all just had the greatest time hanging out together. It was the best thing ever. :)

This is the whole group, not the best picture, but hey, it works. :)

Inside the "limo". Everyone on the side seats had to stabilize themselves on the turns or else their seats would tip over. :) I was smart and sat in back.

Downstairs where we danced.

Me and my little brother. :) What a cutie!

All of the girl's corsages...plus Garrett's hand. :/

Me and my date.

Joseph and his date.

Way fun! We totally should have done that when I was in High School. It was really weird when I saw the picture of you and Joseph, because at first glance, I thought he was Marshall...

PS. You looked way cute! Glad you had fun!
